The World Health Organisation stated on 5 May 2023 that COVID-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. However, it continues to be an ongoing serious health issue and affects in particular, the health and wellbeing of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.
Australian Vietnamese Arts & Culture (AVAC), supported by the Victorian Government, will deliver this program to the Vietnamese community. The objective of the COVID-19 Community Program is to:
1. Engage with, and provide authoritative, trusted, accurate and tailored public health information and advice to priority groups.
2. Support priority groups’ access to COVID-19 treatment and vaccination, and their adoption of COVID-19 preventative behaviours (including staying home when unwell, indoor ventilation, mask-wearing when appropriate).
3. Strengthen partnerships with other key stakeholders, such as community organisations, local public health units, GPs, pharmacists, GP Respiratory Clinics and community health partners to address health needs of priority groups.
4. Gather and share community feedback and insights to help guide the Department’s continued pandemic response.
A comprehensive program of activities will be delivered over the next 8 months. These include but is not exclusive to:
* Weekly Online Health Communication and updates from the Department of Health.
* Education programs by Vietnamese health professional in-language.
* Health Education Sessions to the public / community.
* Online live streaming Health and Q&A sessions with medical professionals.
